We’re Back

Monday, March 27th, 2006

I again apologize for lack of posting last week. I am back on my feet and feeling as spry as a constipated salmon…however spry that is! I have a few tunes for digging on.

“Gazpacho” was recorded during an overdub session for the Canard ‘Self Portrait’ cd. Marc plays keys, Brent on percussion and I play Bon Jovi’s manicotti.

The horrifying “Chickenshit Man” was recorded about a year ago after being inspired by a guy filling his fertilizer van up with gas. He sells chickenshit for a living. He is in despair.

Finally, if you would like to enter a nightmarish world where a guy does an impression of William Shatner talking about the Ukrainian president’s dioxin poisoning…well look no further than the “Vegas” cut off of the forthcoming Pappas & McGee ‘Expressions of Space’ cd. Lester Pappas appears courtesy of Spatial Expressions records and George Macesich.

All Apologies

I will post again with new stuff when I can remove my head from inside the toilet. Flu contraction just ain’t to my satisfaction. Word.

The Exploding Madonna

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

The Exploding Madonna is the newest band project I have been involved in. It can be described as loud. It can be described as louder and finally it can be described as loudest.I play drums, Chris Fabian plays bass/freaks out and Paul Burdack plays guitar and remains quite mysterious. We have been described as Floyd meets the Surfers meets My Bloody Valentine. I really don’t like the comparisons too much when it comes to music. I hate categories even more. Anyway, this is a collage I made and it contains elements of Exploding Madonna jams as well as solo stuff I did for a student film soundtrack that was never used. We have a new album out available at our online store as well as t-shirts n’ stuff. There are more legitimate mp3′s on the band site as well. We are playing some shows starting this Sunday March 19 at the Beta Bar. An improv show will be performed 3/25 at All Saints Cafe. This will feature no predetermined music so it will probably be more soundscapy weirdness than our usual assualt on the senses. we have a tentative date in Pensacola on Friday the 31st of March as well at the Handlebar.

Gravy

Monday, March 13th, 2006

Back in the late 70′s/early 80′s my dad would take my brothers and I hunting out in Jefferson county. On the way there we would usually stop at this scuzzy truck stop place called “Mid-Continent”. It had to have one of the most confusing and improbable names ever. “Incontinent” would be more appropriate! Anyway, they had greasy breakfast food that was just okay, but they had absolutely the best gravy and biscuits ever consumed. So when Canard and the Magnetic Band were working on the ‘Self Portrait’ material, the only original tune was “Truckstop Gravy” . I imagined a kind “Truckin’” type of song. So it’s a pretty slight rip off, but I like this version recorded live at the Beta Bar back in 2003. Dig the bizarre beginning. I have no idea why we started it out like this, but I am pretty sure that it happened spontaneously. Brent… are those brushes for crying out loud?!?!

You’ve got WURMS

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Here’s some more Canard. One track with Brent and Marc called “Ocean Wurm Theme” which was an older instrumental written right when Brent joined. This features the ‘Charlie Brown Principal’ guitar effect that disoriented audiences so much. As if we needed help!

The other two tracks were solo recordings made by me in late ’04 around the time we disbanded, went on hiatus, whatever you want to call it. I think the three of us are hearing that calling again a little bit and discussed it over at Marc’s last Saturday. The weather here in Tallahassee was so nice and Marc was obsessed about his brisket. Planet 10

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Here’s another rather raw, but rocking live cut by the Singing Spoons. “Chest Rabbit/With a Kiss” is from a board tape recorded 1/20/90 at Planet 10. Planet 10 was a great hole in the wall rock club on South Macomb across from the Civic Center that was run by Larry and Mike. Those guys booked us in there a lot and we always had a great time. It was a good place to try out new stuff and we did some strange things on stage. It is now a parking lot. All I remember from that night was that there was a brawl involving some people up the street and that my friend Pat was attacked by a bicycle. Not sure if this can be confirmed.

Kiss the Goat!

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Half the time I feel like a sexless lump of crap. Has anybody seen those Axe commercials? What the hell? Here’s a song for those ass chumps. “Hip Prick” is my tribute to all the sleazebags in the world. Recorded in the late 90′s at Georgia Street. Wow. Dig the bizarre guitar tone.Crazy man, crazy.
